Surprising small town Mexico... and a meet up in Nashville!

The Pisté Résistance: A Surprising Discovery in The Yucatán

In our travels it is often a slice of unassuming, everyday life that delivers the unexpected, and satisfying, taste of a destination.

As a gateway to Chichen Itza, we expected Piste to be dominated by tourist traps, but we found the exact opposite.

We couldn't resist an evening enjoying some genuine Yucatán life.... CONTINUE READING >>

Every once in a great while we receive comments like this:

Please don’t refer to your children as “spawn”. It sounds so disrespectful...  AND

You refer to your daughter as “Piglet”...  How would you like being referred to as “piglet’ or “spawn”?" Have you ever asked her?

I've wanted to respond for a while now, but it didn't feel right before I got my hands on the hilarious evidence behind our nicknaming... CONTINUE READING >>

To Bean or Not to Bean, Is That Even a Question?

As the leaves begin to turn red and gold deep in the Ozarks, excitement starts to build. Competitors check and double check recipes. Others put the final tweaks on their racing machines. Before long, the aroma of beans and outhouses fill the mountain air -- it's time for the Annual Arkansas Bean Fest and Great Championship Outhouse Races. This fest had GypsyNester written all over it. How could we possibly resist?

The festivities, as with... CONTINUE READING >>

French Canadian Kiss

It’s a six hour transatlantic flight from New York City to get a French fix in Paris or, if you're more Chevrolet set than jet set, you can hop in the car and drive six hours to get your Franco fill right here in North America.

Having seen much of the USA in a Chevrolet, we decided to swing by New York City to grab our daughters, 22 and 24, and head north for a whirlwind... read more

The Second Annual Combine Demolition Derby

“Oh, we have got to see this!” It was an ad for the Hillsdale, Michigan County Fair. The entertainment for the opening night was the Second Annual Combine Demolition Derby. We could hardly stand it.

Long a fantasy of mine to demolish a ’73 Chrysler in a derby, the next best thing had to be seeing giant farm implements annihilating each other in the mud and dust of a county fair track. Veronica, who grew up outside the farming belt was a bit confused, “Aren’t combines those machines that do something or other with crops?” Oh yeah, they harvest crops, are extremely huge and this is gonna be great! Immediate Googling was needed for more information on Hillsdale and this wacky... read more
