Amsterdam to the Top of the World by Train

Are we crazy? It's possible we've finally gone off the rails.

When Eurail contacted us to see if we'd like to take advantage of a 15-day rail pass, David the Train Nut's pupils got wide and his answer was a resounding YES!

Veronica was all aboard too, and started dreaming of a wintertime jaunt to sunny Spain. David, however, had other plans. He suggested Scandinavia.

Veronica was not so onboard with this. Right. Let's head north into the cold and dark. Why, pray tell? Then David said two words: Northern Lights.

That did it. Join us LIVE as we embark on a wintry expedition above the Arctic Circle... CONTINUE READING >>

Check Out Where We Stayed in Amsterdam (Hint: It's a Houseboat!)

One of many interesting aspects of Amsterdam that we noticed upon arriving were the colorful houseboats lining the canals - there are about 2,400 of these semi-seafaring gems docked along the walls of the city.

We were overjoyed to have the opportunity to stay on one of them during...CONTINUE READING >>

Fear Conquering & Snow Skiing

Learning to ski at my age had me worrying about things that a younger person might not have.

What if I plummet over a cliff, break my hip, and die from complications a week later? What if I take a blow to the back of my head from one of those chair ride thingies and end up like an amnesia-riddled soap opera character? What if I end up like Sonny Bono and that horrible tree? What if?

But as a committed GypsyNester, it is my duty to step out of my comfort zone and... CONTINUE READING >>

Fear Conquering & Whitewater Rafting

In my never-ending quest to push the envelope, I figured my next challenge would be to tackle whitewater rafting.

My trepidation wasn’t what most people would expect. I love to swim, I love being out on the water and am generally fearless when boating. What I was frightfully anxious about was the coldness of the water.

I like my water warm. When I use the word "bracing" it is always in a negative context. Never the one to just dive into a pool -- no -- I... CONTINUE READING >>

Ain't it Quaint?

Join us in Vermont in the wintertime - quaint and lovely.  We survived skiing - all limbs intact - ate at two diverse eateries and stayed at a charming lodge.

The quaintness factor continued to increase the entire trip. So much so that when we turned off the main road in Vermont we were immediately greeted by a picture perfect covered bridge over a snowy stream... CONTINUE READING >>

In Dry Heat

There seemed to be a crossroads to our Arizona fun, Tucson. We kept passing through on our way from one place to another, so we decided to stop and check it out.

We started our excursion at the Garden of Gethsemane. This odd collection is the work of Felix Lucero and some divine inspiration. Wounded in World War I, Felix thought he was dying and he called on The Virgin Mary to make a deal. If she would save his life, he would dedicate it to creating Christian art. Mary held up her end and so did Mr. Lucero.

Fear Conquering & Snow Skiing

Learning to ski at my age adds worries that someone of a younger ilk might not have. As the days grew nearer to hitting the slopes, my nights grew longer and filled with apprehensive dreams.
